About Mindfulness
Mindfulness, in its simplest definition, means paying attention to the present moment with intention. Think about all the things that may have stressed you out. How many of them had to do with events in the past? How many of them had to do with events that may or may not happen in the future? How many of them had to do with the present moment, right now, as you are reading this paragraph?
Mindfulness is a way to use the present moment to choose what to focus on about the past or the future. The present moment is where we can make positive changes in our lives.
About Ecotherapy
Ecotherapy taps into the healing power of nature to facilitate mindful states of being. Being outdoors in nature makes mindful states easier to achieve while enjoying natural environments.
Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy combines the skills of mindfulness with the techniques of ecotherapy to create a coherent program that allows participants to make a change for the better.
Charlton Hall, MMFT, PhD founded the Mindful Ecotherapy Center, LLC in South Carolina when he was still a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern. He went on to become a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Marriage and Family Therapy Supervisor, a Registered Play Therapist, and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. In 2020, during the pandemic, he ceased being a Supervisor and a Play Therapist to concentrate on his role as the Director of the Mindful Ecotherapy Center. One of these duties is to provide teletherapy by appointment.
Since its founding in 2007, the Mindful Ecotherapy Center has trained hundreds of mental health professionals. We now have certified facilitators in seventeen states in the United States and five countries worldwide.
A Clinical Framework for Nature-Based Healing
As of 2025, the center formally transitioned its legal status to a Professional Limited Liability Company (PLLC), reflecting its commitment to clinical excellence and regulatory compliance for licensed mental health professionals in Washington State. The Mindful Ecotherapy Center emphasizes evidence-based practices. Its core curriculum integrates established modalities such as:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Polyvagal-informed practices for nervous system regulation
Services and Programs
The center serves both the general public and mental health professionals through a diverse range of offerings:

Why It Matters Today
In an era of increasing digital saturation and environmental stress, the Mindful Ecotherapy Center advocates for “Digital Detox” and intentional nature engagement to combat cognitive fatigue and enhance resilience. By teaching you to view life’s challenges as “temporary weather systems,” the center fosters a sustainable path toward mental well-being.
The Mindful Ecotherapy Center trains mental health professionals and the general public in the skills of Mindfulness-Based Ecotherapy.
